Software and Applications Program

Software and Applications Program

In general, software is used to facilitate the organization of the performance of hardware. Software will reduce human interaction with a variety of hardware. The simplest example is how we can print posts from Microsoft Word to Printer. We do not need to know how the computer counts the commands to the printer to print our paper, because everything is handled by Microsoft Word.
Hardware that operating performance will have limited operations and can not be used to run software applications. In other words, the operating system software to bridge the interaction between hardware and software apliksi. Examples of operating systems are Windows, UNIX, Linux, and Macintosh OS.

Specific Aplication software that was developed in accordance with the functions, such as:
1. Word Processing, such as Microsoft Word.
2. Processor numbers, eg Microsoft Excel.
3. Presentation material processing, such as Microsoft PowerPoint.
4. Graphics processors, for example, Adobe Photosoft, Microsoft Paint, and

    CorelDraw.
5. Homepage processing, eg Microsoft FrontPage.
6. Database processing is simple, for example, Microsoft Access.

Based on the function, the software categorized:
Operating System
A program that served to make the control of the hardware and computer software. Although the operating system to work in the background (off-screen) but the role is very important on a computer. All computer equipment such as mouse, keyboard, monitor, printer and other can not function without the support of the operating system. Similarly, the application program can not be run without the support of the operating system.
Operating System (OS), was first introduced and developed for the IBM 701 computer in 1945. At the time, it was the main purpose of the OS is to reduce idle time (idle time) of the CPU and is used to run multiple computer tasks.
The main function of the OS is;
a. Store programs
b. Dividing tasks in CPU
c. Recording data sources
d. Set includes storing memory, delete, and get the data
e. Checking the error system
f. Maintaining security system, specifically in tissues that require a password.

Actually the operating system very much, but that popular now include;
a. MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) and PC-DOS (Personal Computer Disk Operating System). DOS is an operating system originally dipakan on the IBM PC (PC-DOS) and PC compatible with IBM PC (MS-DOS). Currently DOS no longer used anymore.
b. Microsoft Windows. Windows is an operating system developed by Microsoft. Microsoft released OS products such as Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows XP, Windows NT, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows server 2008, Windows server 2012, and while the latter is Windows 8.
c. Linux. Linux is an operating system that is open source development. Open Source is a software development model codes maker program (source code) was opened to the public so anyone free to copy, modify, and distribute software without licensing fees. Because Linux is freely developed by anyone, the types of linux (linux distro) so many of them; RedHat (American), Mandriva (French and American), Suse (German), Ubuntu, Slackware, Fedora, Debian and many more. Linux distribution developed by the Indonesian people are Winbi, IGOS, Pacer, Komura, Kuliax, Blankon, and PINUX.
d. Macintosh. Macintosh is an operating system developed by the company Apple. This operating system can only be run on the computer hardware being developed by the company. So the hardware and software into one inseparable package. Operating system is usually used for graphic design jobs. Operating system released by Apple is the Mac OC X version 10.4 (Tiger) and version 10.5 (Leopard).

Handler in the operating system known some terms:

  1. Multi Programming. A method that allows two or more programs running simultaneously in a computer and share resources at the same time. For example: in a time of a program using the CPU, while the other programs use the printer.
  2. Virtual Storage. A method that handles a number of programs by dividing the program into parts that are smaller and the same size with only a part of each process is stored in main memory at a time. For example, application programs are integrated in the system windows.
  3. Multi Tasking. A capability that allows a user to run several programs at the same time. This method is common in the PC system. By using the Windows operating system, one can run the Excel program to calculate and create tables and simultaneously running Word to create documents. Users can switch from one program to another with ease and every program still executed by the CPU.
  4. Multi Processing. An operating system is the ability to run two or more instructions simultaneously using a CPU in a computer. With such a system is an operating system can set the number of CPUs running different instructions are located in a program in the same time.
